2. Thermocouples according to DIN EN 60584

From the multiplicity of possible wire pairings (over 300 combinations of material pairings for temperature measurement are known) some are used for industrial temperature measurement. The thermovoltages here lie within the range of 5mV/°C to approx. 100mV/°C.

Those materials suitable for industrial temperature measurements are standardized in the DIN EN 60584-1. The thermovoltages indicated in this standard always refer to a cold junction temperature of 0°C.

The materials suitable for temperature measurement can be represented and arranged according to thermovoltage in a thermoelectric voltage series, usually against platinum as reference metal:
